I saw a cool Harry Potter sweater on Pinterest, and decided to make my own!
It says “Don’t let the muggles get you down”
That’s a quote from Ron’s letter in Harry’s birthday card from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
You’ll need…
- a blank sweater (I got mine for $3 from a thrift store)
- fabric paint
- freezer paper
- an iron
- a Cricut machine with a font cartridge you like OR a stencil, a pencil, and scissors
- cardboard (to place in the sweater while you paint)
Here’s what you do!
Lay out your blank sweater.
Cut the freezer paper to say whatever you want….when you cut it, have the waxy side down (don’t throw away the insides of letters – you’ll need those!).
Iron the letters onto the sweater! Make sure the waxy side is on the sweater.
Because I was using spray fabric paint, I didn’t want it to get everywhere…so I took FOREVER to cover the outsides in painter’s tape…
Oh and make sure you put the cardboard in between! I used an old box from Amazon.com
Then get your paint of choice…
And spray/paint your heart out!
You’re supposed to wait until it dries before you peel it all off….but I am impatient, so I took it off while it was still wet…which proved to be a big mistake, because it splattered…
And so to fix that….I made some purposeful splashes…
And here it is! As it dried, it got lighter….unfortunately…but I still love it!
Hindsight 20/20, here’s what I would’ve done differently…
- Put the letters closer together
- Use a darker color
And remember…
